garment dye vs piece dye
Our clothing is produced with one of two different dye processes:
Piece Dyed
The yarn itself is dyed prior to knitting the fabric. The finished piece is a rich color, and the shirt will shrink to size after the first wash. The color is rich, but over time will fade and and wear in like a good pair of denim. This also applies to plain white shirts.
Garment Dyed
The finished piece of clothing is white, at which point our dye house washes and dyes the product. Garment dyed colors therefore have a "washed" or faded look to them, and are pre-shrunk to the correct dimensions.
How do I know which one I have?
Our garment dyed shirts will have an additional hang tag indicating the dye process.
